Impossible French Apple Pie

By Linda Larsen, About.com

This dessert is perfect for a fall celebration or family dinner. I love the contrast between the crunchy pecan streusel, the tender and spicy apples, and the slightly crunchy 'crust'.

Prep Time: 30 minutes

Cook Time: 60 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 6 cups sliced and peeled tart apples
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp. cardamom
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 2 Tbsp. butter, melted
  • 3 eggs
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 3/4 cup baking mix
  • 5 Tbsp. cold butter
  • 1 cup baking mix
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar

Preparation:

Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Grease a 10" pie plate and set aside. In large bowl, combine apples, cinnamon and cardamom and toss to coat. Place in prepared pie plate.

In medium bowl, combine milk, 2 Tbsp. softened butter, eggs, sugar and 1/2 cup baking mix. Beat with wire whisk just until smooth and pour over apples.

In small bowl, combine 5 Tbsp. cold butter, 1 cup baking mix, pecans and brown sugar until crumbly. Sprinkle over pie.

Bake at 325 degrees for 55-65 minutes until knife inserted in center comes out clean. Cool 5-10 minutes before serving. 8 servings
