Crockpot Grains Cereal

All these grains go into the crockpot uncooked. The proportions are critical in this recipe. Use any combination of whole grains you would like, as long as the total equals one cup, for every three cups of water used.

Prep Time: 20 minutes

Cook Time: 8 hours

Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup bulgur (cracked wheat)
  • 1/4 cup long grain brown rice
  • 2 Tbsp. barley
  • 2 Tbsp. cornmeal
  • 1/4 cup rolled oats
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/3 cup dried cranberries
  • 1/4 cup dried cherries
  • 1/3 cup chopped dried apricots
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 3 cups water
  • 1 Tbsp. vanilla
  • 2 Tbsp. toasted sesame seeds

Preparation:

Spray the inside of 1-1/2 quart slow cooker with nonstick cooking spray. Combine all the grains, the dried fruit and cinnamon in slow cooker and mix well. Stir in water and vanilla. Cover slow cooker and cook for 5 to 7 hours on LOW.

Stir the cereal before serving. You can add more water or light cream to make the cereal creamier if you'd like. Sprinkle with sesame seeds and serve. Serves 4
