Cream Cheese Frosted Brownies

Cream Cheese Frosted Brownies came to me in a dream. No, really! I thought the idea was fabulous and created this recipe. Enjoy.

Prep Time: 15 minutes

Cook Time: 35 minutes

Total Time: 50 minutes

Yield: 24 servings

Ingredients:

  • 3/4 cup butter
  • 1-1/2 cups semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1-1/4 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 (8-ounce) package cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup butter, softened
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla

Preparation:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Spray a 13" x 9" pan with nonstick baking spray containing flour and set aside.

In large saucepan, combine 3/4 cup butter, chocolate chips, and cocoa powder. Melt over low heat until smooth, stirring occasionally.

Add brown sugar and granulated sugar and beat well. Beat in eggs until smooth, then stir in vanilla.

Add flour, baking powder, and salt and mix well. Spoon and spread into prepared pan. Bake for 35-45 minutes or until brownies are set and toothpick inserted into center comes out with a few moist crumbs. Cool completely on wire rack.

When brownies are cool, in medium bowl combine cream cheese with 1/4 cup butter and beat well. Add powdered sugar, 1 cup at a time, beating well after each addition. Add vanilla. Spread over cooled brownies.

Store, tightly covered, in the fridge.
