This vanilla pudding mix recipe is an easy and more wholesome substitute for a store-purchased dry mix. You simply combine six dry ingredients and store them in an airtight container (a quart Mason jar with a lid works well), and store in a cool, dry place, like a pantry or cupboard, until ready to use. Blend the mix with milk, heat the mixture up, then add a touch of vanilla (directions on how to do this are included below), and put in single-serve dishes, and chill. When you want a tasty dessert, try this recipe for vanilla pudding mix at home.

It's a convenient way to always have vanilla instant pudding on hand for whenever you want it whether to use it as pudding or within a recipe that needs this ingredient, such as this Peach Dump Cake recipe.

This pudding mix is a perfect holiday edible gift. Tie a decorative ribbon around the jar, making sure to include a card on how to make the pudding mix or include some of your favorite recipes to use it in. You could also put it in a basket with other homemade dry mixes and other cooking and baking goodies.

How to Store and Freeze

  • Once made, place this pudding in an airtight container, or if put in single containers, wrap each tightly with plastic wrap. Make sure to press the wrap onto the surface of the pudding to keep a skin from forming. It will keep for three to four days in the refrigerator.
  • You can also freeze any leftover pudding in a freezer-safe airtight container for up to three months.
