These classic cookies are just so simple. They come from my paternal grandmother, Clara Johnson. If you'd like, they'd be even better frosted with some chocolate frosting.

Prep Time: 15 minutes

Cook Time: 12 minutes

Total Time: 27 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup butter, softened (NO substitutes!)
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 1-1/4 cups sifted flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 2-1/2 cups quick cooking oatmeal

Preparation:

In large bowl, beat butter until smooth. Add sugars, beating until fluffy. beat in eggs and vanilla, then add flour, salt, and oatmeal. Mix in oatmeal. Chill in refrigerator until firm. Preheat oven to 325 degrees F. Shape dough into marble-sized balls and place on cookie sheets. Flatten each cookie with the bottom of a drinking glass dipped into granulated sugar. Dip glass into sugar between each cookie to re-sugar glass. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until cookies are set. Cool on cookie sheets for about a minute, then remove to wire racks to cool. Makes about 36 cookies.

Loved it!, Guest Sunny Momma

I made these cookies for my family on a whim, and they devoured them! To the last half of the batch I added pecans. Loved this! Simple and yum!
