Spritz Press Cookies

Spritz Press Cookies

Linda Larsen
Spritz cookies are a tender butter cookie from Germany. One of my nieces called them "flower cookies" when she was very small, since one of the shapes is a simple flower. They are a great favorite of children, since they are simple, not too sweet, and meltingly tender.

You need a cookie press to make these cookies. Make sure the cookie sheets are completely cool before you press another batch of cookies so the dough sticks and the shapes are perfect.

Prep Time: 20 minutes

Cook Time: 10 minutes

Total Time: 30 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup butter, softened (NO substitutes!)
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 2-1/2 cups flour
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 tsp. ground cardamom
  • 1 cup finely ground almonds

Preparation:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. In large bowl, beat butter and sugar together until fluffy. Add egg and milk and beat well. Stir in dry ingredients and almonds and mix just until combined.

Press dough through a cookie press onto ungreased cookie sheets. You can sprinkle the dough with sprinkles or edible glitter before baking if you'd like. Bake at 350 degrees for 10-12 minutes until very light golden. Remove to a rack to cool, then store at room temperature in airtight container.

Favorite cookies, Guest Janie

These cookies are perfect. They are buttery, tender, rich, and not too sweet. I love to eat them for breakfast! Make sure your cookie sheet is cool before you make each batch or you'll be frustrated!
