Crockpot Chocolate Upside Down Cake

Spoon this Crockpot Chocolate upside Down Cake onto individual cake plates and top with whipped cream or ice cream for a fabulous dessert. Remember that baking mix is not the same thing as cake mix. Baking mix, also known as Bisquick, is used to make everything from biscuits to bread to cakes and cookies. You can make your own homemade baking mix if you'd like.

Prep Time: 20 minutes

Cook Time: 2 hours

Total Time: 2 hours, 20 minutes

Yield: 4 servings

  • 1-1/2 cups baking mix or homemade BisQwick Mix
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/3 cup chocolate syrup
  • 1-1/2 cups hot water

In medium bowl combine baking mix, 1/4 cup brown sugar, 1/4 cup granulated sugar, 1/4 cup cocoa powder, milk, egg, and vanilla and stir to mix well.

Spray 3 quart crockpot with flour based nonstick baking spray and pour batter evenly into crockpot. In small bowl, combine 1/4 cup cocoa powder, 1/3 cup granulated sugar, chocolate syrup, and hot water and mix well. Pour over batter in slow cooker. Cover and cook on HIGH for 2 to 2-1/2 hours until batter doesn't look shiny. Serve immediately by spooning the cake out of the crockpot and turning it upside down on the individual plates.

NOTE: If you have a newer crockpot, cook this on high for 1 to 1-1/2 hours. Check often, because the new hotter crockpots can burn food. See New Hotter Crockpot Update for information.
