Mug cakes are a lot of fun and a quick and easy way to indulge a craving without making an entire cake. You can make them with anything you've got on hand, from peanut butter to apple. It's an offer that's hard to refuse: In about 60 seconds, your favorite heatproof coffee mug will hold a rich and decadent cake, thanks to a quick turn in the microwave. There's no mess, no fuss, and very little waiting, which is always the hardest part when you're craving something sweet. It's the perfect treat for one.

You've probably got all four of the ingredients you need for this cake: milk, flour, baking powder and, of course, Nutella, that chocolate hazelnut spread that's delicious on just about everything, and in everything, from cheesecake to a French toast grilled cheese. If you don't have any, but you have the chocolate, hazelnuts, and other ingredients for it, you can try this do-it-yourself Nutella recipe. There's even a vegan version you can make, too, that involves using non-dairy milk such as soy.

Because microwave ovens vary so much in their power, it's important to keep an eye on the cake for the last 10 to 15 seconds and check it so it doesn't become tough and overcooked.

  5. Continue microwaving slowly in 15-second intervals. Microwaves vary, but what you’re aiming for is that the cake looks set and dry, feels springy and fluffy to the touch, and the edges pull away from the side of the mug. It will probably take an additional 30 to 60 seconds in total.
