Best Winter Recipes

The Top Ten

By , About.com Guide

It's time for my favorite recipes for winter! When it turns cold outside (er, is it cold outside?) these are the recipes to turn to for comfort. They will warm you up inside and out, will warm your home, and make your house smell fantastic. Your whole family will enjoy my best winter recipes.

1. Mexican Pizza

This fabulous recipe is one of the first I ever created. It's rich and satisfying and perfect for a cold winter night. Make the crust ahead of time and the topping too, then when you're ready to bake all you have to do is assemble the pizzas and pop them in the oven.

2. Corned Beef and Cabbage Tarts

For some reason, I only serve this recipe in the winter months. Once I served it to company along with Fresh Tomato Soup (using canned tomatoes) and a green salad. It was a smash!

3. Chocolate Oatmeal Cake

Since my birthday and my husband's both fall in January, I'm thinking of recipes that we both love to eat for this season's list. One of his favorite cakes is German Chocolate Cake. I've improved upon the classic by adding oatmeal and a broiled topping full of coconut and chocolate. Yum.

4. Crockpot Beef Stroganoff

This is one of my favorite recipes of all time. I've served it to company, to family, and eaten most of it all by myself! You'll love it too.

5. Crockpot Orange Curried Chicken

This is my husband's favorite winter recipe - and one of mine too! It's rich and delicious with a fabulously complex flavor. Serve it over brown Basmati rice for lots of fiber and wonderful taste.

6. Indulgent Mac & Cheese

And what would a list of warming foods be without a recipe for the best macaroni and cheese in the world?

7. Crockpot Chicken and Dumplings

This is the ultimate and classic comfort food, and it cooks in your crockpot to make it even easier. This thick and rich stew will warm you up!

8. Swiss Eggs

This fabulously easy recipe is perfect to feed your kids to keep them going until lunch. It takes just a few minutes to stir together and it's perfect served with some nice hot buttered toast.

9. Herbed Oatmeal Bread

When you're serving a big pot of chili to a crowd, make this bread! It makes a big panful and is the perfect texture and flavor. Leftovers make a great breakfast, or slice a piece in half and make a sandwich for lunch.

10. Monte Cristo Sandwiches

This classic sandwich is usually dipped in a batter and deep fried. My version coats the sandwich in crushed crisp rice cereal, then grills it for less fat and more crunch. Be sure to serve it with strawberry jam for dipping!
