Top 10 Recipes for week 10/21/05

By Linda Larsen, About.com

These recipes were chosen by you, the viewer, as some of the most popular at Busy Cooks for the week of 10/22/05. It's getting colder outside and crockpot recipes are getting more popular. Plus, everybody is getting ready for Halloween! Enjoy.

1. Sweet and Sour Crockpot Pork

This wonderfully flavored recipe is so easy because it cooks all day in the crockpot while you're away. I love the color, flavor, and aroma of this great recipe.

2. Great Pumpkin Cheese Ball

Like Snoopy's Great Pumpkin, this pretty little appetizer is a ball of fun! Let your kids decorate the frosted pumpkin, using cut pieces of vegetables.

3. Crockpot Chicken and Veggies

A frying chicken combines with root vegetables in this long cooking slow cooker recipe, then sour cream is stirred in at the end to make a flavorful thick sauce. Yum.

4. Beefy Eyeball Tarts

These cute little tarts really do look like eyeballs! Well, kind of. The important thing is they taste delicious and are fun to make and eat.

5. Blue Brains

This recipe is perfect for a Halloween party. The mixture of cottage cheese with blue gelatin looks very strange, but that's the point! It tastes good too.

6. Madras Chicken

Chicken cooked with apples and onions is a classic fall recipe. This crockpot version is super easy, and it's flavored with curry powder and chutney. Serve it over rice or couscous.

7. Dragon's Breath Dip

As a dragon breathes fire, you'll exude garlic! Yes, there are two heads of garlic in this fabulous recipe, but since they're roasted the flavor is nutty and sweet rather than sharp. Try it!

8. Crockpot Vegetable Minestrone

Minestrone is a thick and rich soup that includes lots of vegetables and pasta. You can also add some drained canned cannellini beans to this soup. Oh, and it cooks in your crockpot too!

9. Milky Way Cake

Oh, this cake is simply sublime. Melted candy bars in the cake and frosting make this recipe one of the best ever. And it's a great way to use up leftover Halloween candy! (IS there every leftover Halloween candy? I think the only time I had leftover was during the infamous Minnesota Halloween Blizzard of '91.)

10. Crockpot Chicken Alfredo

Another crockpot recipe - you can tell it's really fall now. I think that prepared alfredo sauce is one of the best buys in the supermarket today. It's fabulous in this easy recipe full of chicken, broccoli, and cheese.
