Hamburger Hot Dogs

Hamburger Hot Dogs are a fun twist on tradition. Ground beef is seasoned and formed into a hot dog shape, then served in hot dog buns.

Prep Time: 10 minutes

Cook Time: 10 minutes

Total Time: 20 minutes

Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients:

  • 1/4 cup minced onion
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 teaspoons oil
  • 1/4 cup soft bread crumbs
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1 tablespoon ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/8 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 4 hot dog buns, split and toasted
  • 4 slices colby cheese
  • Hot dog toppings: pickle relish, ketchup, mustard

Preparation:

In small microwave-safe bowl, combine onion and garlic with oil. Microwave on high for 1 minute or until vegetables are soft. Remove from microwave. Add bread crumbs, milk, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, and pepper and mix well. Work in ground beef just until combined.

Form beef mixture into four 6" logs. Place on broiler rack. Broil 4-5" from heat for 8-11 minutes, turning once, until meat thermometer registers 160 degrees F. Top with cheese and broil 30 seconds longer, until cheese melts. You can also grill the beef as you would hamburgers; turn so all sides are browned until temperature reaches 160 degrees F.

Place in hot dog buns and serve with toppings.
