This simple and delicious Shepherd's Pie recipe is made from only five ingredients.

Prep Time: 10 minutes

Cook Time: 40 minutes

Total Time: 50 minutes

Yield: 6 servings


  • 1 lb. lean ground beef
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cups frozen mixed vegetables
  • 10 oz. can cream of mushroom soup with roasted garlic
  • 1 tsp. dried marjoram leaves
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 3 cups refrigerated mashed potatoes


Preheat oven to 375 degrees. In heavy skillet cook ground beef and onion until beef is brown and onion is tender, stirring to break up meat, about 10 minutes. Drain well. Stir in vegetables and soup and cook until hot, about 4 minutes, then add marjoram and salt and pepper to taste.

Place in 9 inch pie plate. Spoon mashed potatoes over hot meat mixture. Bake at 375 degrees for 35-45 minutes until potatoes are golden brown and pie is bubbling.

Very good and easy. Definitely a wonderful comfort food classic to whip up for the family. I used a pound and half of ground beef (because that's how my grass-fed beef is packaged) so I added additional amounts of spice and soup etc. I popped two Yukon potatoes in the microwave and added them to some Idahoan instant mashed potatoes--when I mixed them together--I added a little low-fat sour cream and half-half and dash of salt. I really think this added extra flavor to the mashed potatoes, which added some richness to the recipe. Next time, I might add some Worcestershire and red wine to the ground beef mixture while cooking it. I believe this would add even more flavor to the dish even though it was really good the way it was. Really, it is an easy and pretty dish even for company! -:)
