Ham and Apple Strata

By Linda Larsen, About.com

If you can't find frozen escalloped apples, use a 16 oz can of apple pie filling, removing a few tablespoons of the thickened liquid.

Prep Time: 20 minutes

Cook Time: 40 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 5 slices bread, cubed
  • 16-oz. can apple pie filling
  • 2 cups chopped ham
  • 1/4 cup chopped green onion
  • 1 cup shredded Cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup shredded Havarti cheese
  • 4 eggs, beaten
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 2 Tbsp. grated Parmesan cheese

Preparation:

Place bread cubes in a greased 9" deep dish pie pan. Cover with the apples. Then layer on ham, green onion, and Cheddar and Havarti cheeses.

Beat together eggs and cream in small bowl. Pour over strata, cover and refrigerate overnight or up to 24 hours.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Sprinkle with Parmesan cheese, then bake the strata, uncovered, at 350 degrees F for 35-45 minutes until center is set and top is light golden brown. Serve with maple syrup or honey and powdered sugar. 6 servings
