Cranberry Turkey Burgers

By Linda Larsen, About.com

You can serve these turkey burgers without the cranberry sauce - the mild flavor of the burgers goes with just about any topping, or none at all.

Prep Time: 20 minutes

Cook Time: 15 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb. ground turkey
  • 1/3 cup finely chopped fresh mushrooms
  • 1/4 cup bread crumbs
  • 3 Tbsp. finely chopped onion
  • 1/2 tsp. dried sage leaves
  • 1/2 tsp. dried thyme leaves
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/8 tsp. pepper
  • 4 slices Havarti or Swiss cheese
  • 2 Tbsp. Dijon mustard
  • 1/3 cup cranberry sauce
  • 4 split whole wheat sandwich buns
  • 2 Tbsp. butter

Preparation:

Prepare and heat grill. Combine turkey, mushrooms, bread crumbs, onion, sage, thyme and salt in large bowl and mix gently. Form into four patties.

Grill 4-6" from medium high coals for 10-15 minutes until burgers are no longer pink in center, or until internal temperature reaches 165 degrees. Remove from grill, add cheese slices, cover and let stand 4-5 minutes.

Meanwhile, spread cut sides of buns with butter and grill for 1-2 minutes on grilling surface until toasted. In small bowl, combine mustard and cranberry sauce and serve with burgers on buns. 4 burgers
