These super easy sandwiches are such a simple recipe. Choose your favorite fish fillet; grouper or red snapper would be delicious. You can also use breaded fish fillets you buy frozen. Just bake them according to the package directions, adding the cheese during the last 4 minutes of baking time.

Prep Time: 15 minutes

Cook Time: 20 minutes

Total Time: 35 minutes

Yield: 4 servings


  • 1/4 cup tartar sauce
  • 1 tsp. lemon juice
  • 1/2 cup seasoned dry bread crumbs
  • 4 (4 oz.) fish fillets
  • 4 slices Swiss or Havarti cheese
  • 4 toasted sandwich buns
  • More tartar sauce
  • Tomato
  • Lettuce leaves


Preheat oven to 400 degrees and spray a jelly roll pan with nonstick cooking spray; set aside. Combine tartar sauce and lemon juice in a shallow pan. Coat fillets with this mixture, then roll in bread crumbs to coat. Place in prepared pan.

Bake at 400 degrees for 16-22 minutes until fish flakes easily when tested with a fork. Add cheese slices to the top of the fillets during the last 3-4 minutes of baking time. OR bake frozen breaded fish fillets as the package directs, adding cheese at the end.

Spread the sandwich buns with butter. Spread the cut sides with the additional tartar sauce, then add the lettuce, fish, and tomato. Put the sandwiches together, squeeze gently, and serve immediately.
