Stovetop Beef Chili

This simple chili recipe has a lot of flavor because the onions and ground beef are cooked together for the base of the soup.

Prep Time: 10 minutes

Cook Time: 25 minutes

Total Time: 35 minutes

Yield: Serves 6


  • 1 lb. ground beef
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 Tbsp. flour
  • 2 (14 oz.) cans diced tomatoes, undrained
  • 1 cup water
  • 15 oz. can tomato sauce
  • 1 Tbsp. chili powder
  • 1 tsp. ground cumin
  • 1/2 tsp. dried oregano leaves
  • 2 (15 oz.) cans red kidney beans, rinsed and drained


In heavy stockpot, saute ground beef with onion and garlic until beef is no longer pink and vegetables are tender. Sprinkle flour over mixture; cook and stir for 2-3 minutes. Add remaining ingredients and bring to a boil. Reduce heat, cover, and simmer for 15-20 minutes until flavors are blended.

Yep, my 12 year old made this (with my wife's supervision). It was really good - they also made the Cheese crackers from this site.
