French Toast

By Linda Larsen, About.com

My mother would always make pancakes and french toast on a electric skillet set on the counter. So do I. This classic recipe is perfect for a leisurely weekend breakfast.

Prep Time: 15 minutes

Cook Time: 5 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 12 slices whole wheat bread
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 cup half and half
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • Butter

Preparation:

Combine eggs and half and half in large shallow bowl. Beat well to combine; stir in salt. Soak bread in this mixture for 1 minute on each side.

Heat electric skillet to 350 degrees F and run some butter around the skillet so it coats the bottom. Add soaked bread and cook, turning once, until golden brown on both sides, about 5-8 minutes. Serve with powdered sugar (my favorite), jams, and maple syrup. Serves 6
