Cook salmon to tender, moist perfection in your crockpot or slow cooker. Vary the seasonings according to your own tastes if you'd like.

Prep Time: 10 minutes

Cook Time: 3 hours

Total Time: 3 hours, 10 minutes

Yield: Serves 4

  • 4 salmon steaks
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon white pepper
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried dill weed

Grease the bottom of a 3-4 quart slow cooker and stack the salmon fillets in the appliance. In heavy saucepan, combine remaining ingredients and bring to a boil over high heat. Stir, then pour over salmon in crockpot, cover, and cook on low for 3-1/2 hours or until salmon flakes when tested with a fork.

nice way to poach salmon, easy to make too, Member eyeseelinda

I made this tonight for dinner. I thought this sounded like a nice way to poach salmon, so I gave it a try. Here are a few tweaks I made: 1) I left the skin on the salmon to add taste to the poaching liquid. I pulled it off (easily) before serving. 2) I added 1tsp sesame oil, 2 tsp soy sauce and a few drops of hot sauce to the liquid. I served mine over noodles and it was really good. I think I ate my dinner in record time! The liquid turns out to be quite a nice fish stock because of the flavors coming from the salmon. Be sure to stir half way through to make sure all the ingredients, including the fish, are cooked evenly. I loved this so much I'm going to make it my go-to salmon recipe. I'm also sure this would work great with other types medium or firm fish. Or a mixture of fish. Take this great base and tweak it to make it your own. Very versatile options for sure. And super easy. Everything was in the crock pot in under 5 minutes.
