My Great-Grandmother's Stuffing

My little sister discovered this fabulous method for cooking the best stuffing in the world. Try it! It makes sense that the crockpot would be the perfect environment for cooking stuffing because it's a moist heat cooking method - just like inside your turkey.

Prep Time: 20 minutes

Cook Time: 7 hours

Ingredients:

  • 10 slices oatmeal bread, dried overnight and cubed
  • 2 Winesap or Haralson apples, peeled and chopped
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 cup raisins
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1//4 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/4 cup butter, melted
  • 1/3 cup cold water
  • 3/4 cup chicken broth, as needed

Preparation:

Combine all ingredients except butter and water in 4-5 quart crockpot and toss with hands to mix. Sprinkle melted butter and water over dressing, tossing with a fork to combine. Drizzle with 1/4 cup of the chicken broth (keep remaining chicken broth refrigerated) and cook on low for 7-8 hours, drizzling with a few tablespoons of the chicken broth every 2 hours, as needed
