The newer crockpots cook hotter than the older versions, so be sure to check doneness at the minimum time specified in the recipe. You can vary ingredients in the main dishes and soups as you'd like, but be sure to keep approximately the same proportion of meat or vegetables to sauces and cheeses. You can play more with soups and stews by changing the meat, broth, and vegetables.
