Top 10 Dessert Pie Recipes

By , About.com Guide

Desserts are an integral part of meals. Sure, you don't need a dessert when you're making everyday meals for your family. But entertaining and the holiday season demand desserts. Pies are wonderful desserts because they're easy to make (especially if you use a prepared pie crust) and are loved by all. These ten pie recipes are some of my favorites. You'll love them too!

1. Angel Cheesecake Pie

This fabulous recipe is one of my all time favorites. It originally used raw egg whites, so I changed that to make it safe. It's creamy, rich, light, velvety, and smooth. In other words, perfection!

2. Rich Pecan Pie

I love pecan pie, but sometimes it can be a little soft. I like a chewy pie, almost like an oatmeal cookie in a crust. This pie delivers! There's no corn syrup, so it is thicker and less like a chess pie. You'll love it.

3. Sour Cherry Pie

I love cherry pie. It's quite an American dessert, and it's an old-fashioned recipe too because it's simple and classic. You can make this pie with sweet cherries, but sour cherries really add complexity of flavor. Yum.

4. Best Elvis Pie

You know the Elvis pie - peanut butter and banana! This recipe lifts this combination to a new level, with caramel sauce and toffee bits. Plus it feeds a crowd, since it's made in a 13x9" pan.

5. Pumpkin Pie

Classic pumpkin pie is very simple. All you need is a pie crust, some canned pumpkin, sugar, eggs, and spices. This recipe is easy and has the best velvety texture.

6. Creamy Lemon Pie

If you aren't a pie baker but you want to serve pie to company, this is the recipe for you. It uses just three ingredients but the pie is fabulous. The lemon curd turns the frozen yogurt into something that is just out of this world.

7. Chocolate Pecan Caramel Pie

If you want to wow your guests, make this pie. It's actually a no bake recipe that starts with a purchased chocolate crumb crust. Chocolate chips are melted in caramel sauce to make the filling. It tastes like a turtle candy in a pie crust!

8. Lemon Meringue Pie
