Taco seasoning mix recipeFebruary 27, 2012 By None
I had this before and loss it. I leave out the salt. It is better than the package ones. and leaving out the salt does not lose anything. I make it with left over chicken, I cut it or shred it and add some seasons, since I make a small amount for one, I use only 1 teaspoon or seasoning. I add water just to cover and microwave for a minute. I then make a taco salad out of it. Healthy and good.

When I read the ingredients, I thought to myself that there was no way this would taste like Old El Paso seasoning. I was seriously surprised that that it smelled and tasted just the same! The best thing about making this at home is that most store bought taco seasonings include sugar. I'm on a low glycemic diet, and try to watch my sugar intake, so it is nice that the recipe does not call for sugar. I thought this was just a tad on the salty side, but it might have been because I added three tablespoons to a lb of hamburger for the extra kick of flavor. Still, I think I will cut down on the salt next time. I will never buy store bought again, that is for sure.

Very easy and tasty seasoning mix!June 25, 2011 By None
My husband just started a new diet program and his allowed salt is very reduced, so even though we love the seasoning packets from the grocery store, I knew I would not be able to use those anymore. So I googled to find a taco seasoning recipe and came across this one. I substituted Morton Lite Salt, and I didn't have minced onion or corn starch, so I used a packet of onion soup mix instead. This was seriously DELICIOUS with shredded chicken, and it is so nice to have a familiar tasting meal that is allowed on his diet plan with my modifications. Thank you for posting!

Taco SeasoningJanuary 07, 2011 By None
This is an awesome recipe. I use 3 tablespoons per 1 lb of ground beef and 1 1/2 cups of water, bring to a boil, lower heat and simmer till liquid is gone, about 30 minutes. The reason for this is so the spices have time to mary with the meat. Don't worry you won't end up with running taco meat. Also, try a few dashes of cayenne for a little kick.

Better than store-bought!!!March 07, 2010 By None
Both my husband and I are on reduced salt diets so I wanted to make my own taco mix to lower the sodium. I used the reduced sodium ""salt"" and cut the amount by half. It was FABULOUS! We liked it better than the store-bought mix. My family likes to have taco night, and now we can start doing it weekly again. Thanks for the wonderful recipe!!

This recipe has just the right ""bite"" to it. We were getting tired of the packaged taco seasonings. Nice change!

I didn't know how easy it was to make taco seasoning mix! I made a couple of modification per my tastes, but this formula is great.

You saved my life tonight,, well okay, you saved dinner. I had purchased all the ingredients for taco's for tonight's dinner, only to find as I was browning the burger, that we were totally OUT of taco seasonings.. I Googled it and found you! Had all the ingredients and made a batch up. used most of it as I had lots and lots of burger browning. It was most excellent! Thank you again! Mary in PA

Not BadJuly 22, 2009 By ohevshalomel
This mix was pretty decent, and I bet I'll more save a lot over the course of use, paying probably about $1.00 to $1.50 for the whole mix, as opposed to 50 to 75 cents per packet of taco seasoning. Thanks for the recipe!

My Kids Love It!!!May 13, 2009 By jeffandlisak
I made a big batch of this and my kids love it. Taste much better then pre packaged taco mix. I left the cornstarch out because I'm on atkins and I dont see a need to use it. The only thing I would say is for the orignal poster to post how much to use per 1 lbs of meat. I had to play it by ear.

I adjusted the seasonings a little to fit my families preferences, a little less chili and a little more garlic and added onion powder. Great recipe!

Taco SeasoningAugust 21, 2007 By madamcooksalot
This seasoning was easy to prepare (I had all ingredients in my cabinet), easy to use, and makes wonderfully flavored tacos. I used this last night, and my children and husband ate 4 tacos each. My daughter never wanted tacos before!
